Bags of Love / Bolsas de Amor
Since 2009, Bolsas de Amor has brought hope directly to families in need. What started as a simple idea has grown into a movement — over 6,500 families across the DMV have received a “bag of love” filled with essential groceries and care.
Founded by Elda Devarie of EMD Sales Inc., alongside media professionals Alberto Avendaño and Zulema Tijero, community advocate Millie Ocacio Perez, and radio personality Pedro Biaggi, this grassroots effort now fills over 1,000 boxes annually. Each box contains over 42 carefully selected food items, available for pickup at 36 convenient locations throughout the region.
Their ultimate goal? To create a community so strong and self-sufficient that Bolsas de Amor is no longer needed.

“Whether you have a lot or a little, there’s always something you can give, there’s always something you can share. Whether it’s a smile, handshake, or a hug, or a box full of love;
you always have the opportunity to give back.”
